THE CAYON HIGH SCHOOL
The Cayon High School (CHS) is located in the heart of ‘Green Valley’the town of Cayon. Itis the largest community on the eastern Atlantic coast of St. Kitts.

The school welcomed its first cohort of students in September 1971 at its present site. The students were products of the primary schools from Cayon as well as the neighboring villages of Keys, Ottleys, Lodge, Molyneux, Phillips, Mansion, Tabernacle, Saddlers and Parson Grounds.
Today’s students are still drawn from the primary schools located in the stretch of villages from Keys going northwest to the Joshua Obadiah Williams Primary School in Molyneux.

CAYON PRIMARY
The establishment of this institution by the authorities was part of an attempt to make High/Secondary education accessible to that population who by and large was not able to. This rural population was involved in work related to agriculture, mainly in the planting and harvesting of sugar cane. The main jobs were male oriented driven..Tractor drivers and supporting crew (brakes men), loader operators and crane men along with cane cutters, locomotive drivers and crew. The women were mainly employed as water-carrier, spreading soda and ‘trash spreaders’.

It was the children of these workers who initially were provided with an opportunity to be exposed to learning at the post Primary level. The parents by and large ‘left school’ after ‘six standard’ with no certification to indicate their educational achievement.

Those few who progressed ‘graduated with a Seven Standard certificate , a few of those sometimes achieved a higher level at (CP) Certificate of Proficiency.
